https://camperdownburnsfestival.com.au/ Burns Birthday Celebrations, Botanic Gardens- SUN 28 JAN, 4pm. A free event, with gold coin donation appreciated. BYO picnic and chairs. You do not need a tartan heart to enjoy the event, it is very relaxed and family friendly. Program as follows; From 3.45 Dr John Menzies will be playing the bagpipes inviting guests to make their way to the performance space. Simon Buccheri will MC the event which will begin with a welcome, followed by the piping in of the haggis. This is a grand sight with a kilted parade that features honoured guests and a sword bearer. Norm Macdonald will then perform the ‘Address to the Haggis’, and while the haggis is prepared for tasting (which is optional) Geelong Scottish Dance, led by Christine Shields-Jones, will dance to a pipe tune. This is followed by a word or two on Burns from Dr Menzies to set the scene even further. The Twa Bards (bodhrans, flute, vocals, guitar) will then present a set of Robert Burns songs, sharing the story and history represented in his work. A Burns poem will then be recited by Andrew O’Flynn, who is a festival favourite. The raffle will be drawn while Peter Daffy's Tuniversal Community Music Group, who auspice the festival, set up. Their diverse set will feature tunes that will be accompanied at times by Geelong Scottish Dance; magical. The afternoon will finish with everyone joining in for Auld Lang Syne. #rbcf2024 #rbcf #robertburnscelticfestival
